Made it to Zoomer Schopenhauer bring up Javon's Paradox in the context of computers and bitcoin. Of course, the original context in which William Stanley Javon stated the paradox, which carries his name, was that of the steam engine! Yet here we all are. Efficient gains still continue to drive the never-ending expansion of technology to new areas of human life (or simply expand how much "life" we live: ie now drive two hours back and forth to work because it's now become "affordable") thereby expanding the total human energy consumption.
Much of how a person reacts to a fact such as Javon's Paradox has to do with personality type. Optimists, quite often referred to as corncuopians, in this context, believe we will eternally stay ahead of the energy efficiency gain versus the energy consumption loss curve. Pessimists ie "doomers" see us as already running on fumes. I've honestly come to see this as not a direct right versus left thing.
Glad y'all brought up the fact that both communists and capitalists tend to take the optimistic stance in the face of Javon's Paradox. Marx indeed violently rejected the Malthusian population principle. I believe l read somewhere in the works of the American anthropologist Marvin Harris that Marx had this to say of Malthus:
This MUTHAFUKR right here, you’ve been killing it! This is the shit that we need to talk about and flesh out…thank you Kat for your tenacity and diligence 🙏🏻🫡🐺
Hey, Josh. You mentioned the animated movie 'Ferngully' as an example of where the US is in regards to environmentalism. Another animated movie that may fit into where you were going is 'Pocahontas'.
"How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know."
Environtalism clearly became for many a theology, not unlike Marxist Communism. It not only lost nuance in its own fundamentalism and apocalyptic-redrmptive preaching, it inevitably overwhelmed Science it claimed to draw on. And yes, on top of that, it was a gift both in govt and in academia. And that is sad.
Zoomer Schopenhauer🤔 ... you got me at that👍. I will listen to the whole cast. Just dip in and Zoomer Schopenhauer is covering peak oil. I remember all this from the past. He's basically right. Drain American First that's funny 😁. By the way, Dave Foreman turned me into a right-winger. A Malthusian ring-winger.
You are blessing us lately. Keep flapping your fat lips brah
Yes sir!
destagnated + decalcified
LOL

A pig dressed in a priest's frock.
Will listen through the rest and comment again.
